Donald Trump says his father’s arrest at a KKK rally doesn’t count because he wasn’t charged
After records surfaced that Donald Trump’s father had been arrested at a Ku Klux Klan rally, the republican frontrunner has begun attempting to do damage control to minimize the incident. Suffice it to say that those efforts are going about as well as expected based on the brusque nature of his campaign for President to date. Today, Trump tried to explain away the incident by first claiming that his father was never at the rally, and then – in the same sentence – claiming that the arrest didn’t matter because no charges were filed.
Two weeks after Boing Boing broke the story that a vintage 1927 edition of the New York Times had reported the arrest of Fred Trump at a KKK rally in New York, it’s gained enough traction that Trump decided to speak to the New York Times – the 2015 version – in the hopes of putting the controversy to bed.
While a candidate can’t be held responsible for the actions of his father twenty years before he himself was born, the KKK issue is particularly tricky with Donald Trump due to the anti-immigrant, anti-Mexican, anti-Muslim nature of his campaign which has been taken to such an extreme that at one nearly all-white rally in Alabama, attendees were captured on video yelling “White power” while at another rally an attendee asked him to “get rid” of all the Muslims. Perhaps sensing the severity of the revelation that his father may have been a member of the Ku Klux Klan, Trump tried to explain it away…
First he denied that his father had ever lived on the street listed in the newspaper report, then he denied his father was arrested. “There were zero charges against him. So assuming it was him — I don’t even think it was him, I never even heard about it. So it’s really not fair to mention. It never happened.” Trump’s responses were so surreal that the Times interviewer was prompted to refer to it as “pasta against the wall.”

It was not a rally, it was a massive brawl between KKK members and police at a 1927 Memorial Day parade in New York City in which the KKK were openly marching, which they did back then. Assuming the June 1927 article image found on boing is authentic. According to this image, his father would have been 21 years old and lived in Jamaica NY, the article says most of the KKK members were not natives. His father did not need to bail out he was just released. Others were charged and some provided bail, indicating he was guilty of nothing. They did not provide a page number of the paper, which is suspect because it makes it more difficult to authenticate.
