As the 2016 democratic party candidates for President faced off for the first time tonight, the CNN moderator made a point of bringing up Hillary Clinton‘s use of email. It’s a long worn thread which the republicans are still trying to use for political gain, even as mainstream Americans seem to have grown tired of hearing about it. Surprise: Clinton’s chief rival Bernie Sanders is tired of hearing about email as well. And he said so during the debate emphatically.
In a moment which may not change anyone’s vote in the democratic primary race, but may have cemented the party unity theme upon which Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have tried to base their 2016 campaigns, Sanders was handed an opportunity to make hay of the email controversy. She defended herself and then he was given an opportunity to respond. Rather than taking the bait and trying to score cheap points, or even taking a pass on the issue, Bernie admitted that what he was about to say wasn’t “great politics” but then went on to say to her, “The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.” He then went on to make a case for why the election should be about real issues, and by the end of the exchange, the two were embracing. Watch the memorable clip below:
Clinton and Sanders went on to disagree about some details of issues like gun control, Syria, and banking reform. But it’s clear that neither is interested in scoring cheap points. If you enjoy Daily News Bin, consider making a contribution:
